YOU’VE MADE YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS… NOW ACHIEVE THEM!

2017 is here!
Three days in and I have no doubt that you are going strong with your New Year’s resolutions… eating organic quinoa, getting up early to go to the gym, washing your makeup off before bed! But what happens when, well, when life happens and you inevitably get busy or perhaps lose motivation, and those resolutions that were so important on January 1 get moved right down the priority list?

Wouldn’t it be great if 2017 was the year we achieved our resolutions?!

HERE ARE SOME TIPS ON HOW TO KEEP YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE YEAR!

WILLPOWER

How many of you are about to say, “I just lack the willpower to stick to things”? This may very well be the case but did you know that willpower can be improved through training? Willpower is like a muscle - the more you use it the stronger it gets! While now your willpower might feel weak like your muscles after your first KX Pilates session, research shows that if pushed for a few weeks your willpower will get stronger! So remember, each time you say “no” to that extra piece of cake, or say “yes” to going for a walk, you are getting stronger and closer to your goals!

BREAK IT DOWN

Breaking your resolutions down into smaller, more achievable changes can make a huge challenge seem like a piece of cake (say no to the cake, LJ!) For example, if you want to lose 10kg, then make smaller, more targeted goals such as ‘going for a half hour walk every other day’ or ‘not eating chocolate on a weekday’. These will be quicker and easier to achieve than your resolution of losing 10kg, leaving you feeling empowered, and you will be more likely to lose that Christmas bulge!

SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT

Another tip is to use a picture of what you’re trying to achieve to keep yourself on track! Place it somewhere so that you will see it regularly, e.g. your work desk or bedroom mirror (I like to put mine on the fridge). A visual reminder of your goal is excellent for improving your self-control; it’s much harder to forget a goal that you see every day. When your self-discipline is being tested you can also try doing something that usually puts you in a good mood, like watching your favourite TV show or going to a relaxing yoga class. Research shows that when you’re enjoying yourself your willpower is improved.

REMEMBER… YOU ARE CAPABLE OF AMAZING THINGS

Past successes with self-control or goal reaching can be very easily forgotten, but shouldn’t be! If you’ve ever quit smoking, studied hours on end for a test, or made breakfast for your kids every day for years, remember those achievements! You know you CAN make positive changes because you HAVE done it before, so be sure to remind yourself of this!

FROM OUR TEAM TO YOU, HAPPY NEW YEAR! LET 2017 BE A YEAR FILLED WITH HEALTH, HAPPINESS AND SUCCESS IN ACHIEVING YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS!
