Simple Steps To A Better, More Confident You

I’m sure we all have times when we doubt our abilities or feel a little low in confidence. A lack of self-confidence and negative thoughts can really hold us back and prevent us from pursuing our goals in life! Here are a few simple tips to boost your confidence and help you take on the world!

Stop comparing yourself to others – The only person worth comparing yourself to is you! Look to become a better version of the person you were yesterday rather than comparing yourself to someone else, especially if that someone else is an Instagram star only showing you their highlights reel!

Say no – Practice saying no. The ability to say no to something you don’t want to do or don’t have time to do requires you to be assertive. Always saying yes and trying to please everyone else can result in feeling low in the long term. Saying no is healthy and empowering, so try it!

Empower yourself with knowledge – Empowerment = Confidence! One of the best ways to feel empowered is to learn something new. It could be improving your memory skills, learning a new language or studying up on the 100 rarest bird species! Find something you are passionate about and see your confidence skyrocket!

Exercise - Exercise seems to be a solution for everything… Too many wines on the weekend? Exercise. Need to clear your head? Exercise. Boss stressing you out at work? Exercise... and wine! Exercise boosts your confidence and makes you feel like you are ready to take on the world. All you have to do is take a walk a few times a week, and you’ll see benefits. Start the habit today!

Kill negative thoughts – Be aware of your self-talk. These are the thoughts you have about yourself and what you’re doing. If a lot of your self-talk is negative, for example; “This is too hard” or “You’re hopeless”, then this is what you will truly believe. Practice turning this self-talk into positive thoughts and over time your confidence will sky rocket. Say “I can do this! Keep going” and “I’ve got this!” instead. Stop negative talk dead in its tracks!

Get to know yourself – Really try to become self-aware and know what your strengths and weaknesses are. The more you know yourself the better you will be at changing yourself positively. Take note of the things you can do well, and have a think about what your limitations are. Are these real limitations or some that you’ve just labelled yourself with? Dig deep within yourself, and you’ll come out with even greater self-confidence.

Stand tall – Remind yourself to stand tall and straight. Try to imagine yourself with a rope attached to the top of your head, pulling your body up towards the sky. When you imagine this the rest of your body will straighten accordingly! People who stand tall are perceived as more confident and attractive.

And finally Fake it till you make it – when in doubt a touch of lipstick and some killer heels will have you looking like you can take on the world even if you don’t truly believe it just yet!
