Whether you're making a dash for the sun to get away from the cold and rainy weather, or making the most of it and heading to the snow, it can be difficult to stay in shape and maintain a balanced diet and exercise routine when you're away from home and enjoying some much needed R&R with your friends or family.
Here are some helpful tips to ensure that you're able to make the most of your holiday, without throwing away all your diet and exercise results!
Firstly, it's a good idea to do a bit of preparation before you leave. We personally feel that the airport is the most tempting place to have a cheeky McDonalds or bag of M&Ms because there's no healthier options, right?? If you plan ahead, you can pack your carry-on full of delicious and healthy snacks, for example bliss balls instead of M&Ms, and popcorn instead of chips. You could even throw a BODi pack into your bag for a convenient and healthy meal on the go! This will set you up in the right mindset for the rest of you holiday as you won't have already thrown off your balance from day one.
Another great way to maintain a healthy lifestyle while on holidays is to find some fun, active activities to do while still sightseeing. It may be going on a hike to check out the view, biking through the city, or simply just opting to walk around while you explore instead of catching a tour bus. Depending on where you are going, there are some great free walking tours that you can do to explore the city and learn about the history from an entertaining tour guide. If your idea of the perfect vacation is to lie by the beach and do nothing, we're with you on that one! In this case, try to make use of the hotel gym or find some easy home workouts that you can do in your room, no equipment needed! This will mean that you'll get a bit of exercising in so you can go for a pizza and a wine afterwards, guilt free!
Of course it's ideal to be able to stay active and not go too crazy on the junk food while on holidays, but try not to restrict yourself or feel guilty about it. After all, the whole idea is to relax and enjoy your time, and if for you that means endless cocktails by the beach or dessert every night then go for it! Your healthy routine will always be there waiting for you when you get home.
